Fast Start for Projects™ Process selected as Best Practice by Top Government Agency

National Securities Technologies LLC, the management and operating contractor of the Nevada Test Site for the U.S. Department of Energy used PM tec’s propriatary Fast Start for Projects™ methodology for project initiation on 2 major projects. “Fast Start is a two-day meeting with the Project Stakeholders including the customer and project team members and a knowledgeable Facilitator with an Agenda outlining Project initiation. Fast Start, while enabling Project Team dynamics, provides an opportunity for Customer and Project Team to fully discuss and understand the Project Work Scope. A well-defined Work Scope permits development of the Work Breakdown Structure and its decomposition into manageable and meaningful elements of work. The ensuing development of the schedule identifies timing of key deliverables to meet Customer expectations. Estimating the cost to establish a project budget takes into account the schedule durations and work scope to meet Customer funding limitations. This is considered a Best Practice.”, Department of Energy Compliance Reivew.

The projects supported by PMtec through the Fast Start for Projects™ process are high-technology experimental research projects in the $10-30M range.

PM tec, Inc. supporting Space Science & Space Exploration

PM tec, Inc. personnel are working with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Universities Space Research Association (USRA) staff to manage the Science and Mission Operations Project Management Plan for the Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA - a highly modified Boeing 747SP aircraft fitted with a 2.5-meter/98-inch diameter infrared telescope). PM tec, Inc. assists resident staff in regular updating of the project schedule, the development of monthly reports and project status presentations, and baseline change management.

Our relationship with the SOFIA project began in 2007, when PM tec conducted a Fast Start for Projects™ workshop with personnel from NASA and USRA to develop a new Science and Mission Operations Baseline Project Management Plan for SOFIA. PM tec, Inc. personnel continued to work with NASA and USRA personnel on-site at Ames Research Center and Dryden Flight Research Center throughout 2007 and 2008 in the establishment of a cost and resource loaded project baseline schedule using Oracle Primavera P6, as well as developing project management processes and procedures and an Earned Value Management reporting system.
